Kelly Holmes, LCSW

I am passionate about helping adolescents, adults, and couples learn to identify their strengths and to better understand themselves in order to create permanent change.  My approach is eclectic in that I implement a variety of therapeutic strategies to best fit each client on an individual level.  This is dependent of why a client or couple is seeking counseling, their age, learning style, and personality.

The following treatment orientations are the most common approaches that I practice:  CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), MBCT (mindfulness-based cognitive therapy),psychodynamic, solution-focused, and empowerment.  Since I work from a more natural perspective I frequently use more holistic approaches in my practice to help my clients gain more self-awareness and appreciation for themselves.  These techniques often include yoga & breathing, guided imagery & relaxation, art &  music therapy.

I attended the University of Houston where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Social Work with a focus on clinical practice.  During my graduate program, I began helping families mend by assisting and supporting them through abusive and traumatic situations with Child Protective Services.  I then gained experience with adolescents recovering from addictions (including alcohol, drugs, food, and sex) , mood disorders, and/or trauma in an outpatient rehabilitation setting that included individual, group, and family counseling.

Since graduating, I have provided counseling services to a wide range of clients including children, adolescents, adults, and their families by guiding and empowering them to reach their goals and educating them on appropriate life skills to improve and maintain behavioral changes.  In addition to my private clinical practice, I have volunteered my services by providing weekly play therapy to children at Small Steps Nurturing Center who were experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
